In the summer of 2001, as I approached 30 years old, I found myself without a clear career path. One day, I came across a couple of guys working on an HVAC installation at a house. After talking with them, I learned what HVAC was and discovered they were looking for help. It would require a four-year apprenticeship, a pay cut, and starting at the bottom. With a two-year-old son and a baby on the way, my wife Julie and I decided this could be a wise life choice.
I embarked on a new career path, learning the ins and outs of HVAC installations and service. Four long years later, I became a licensed journeyman and thought the hard part was over. Almost immediately, I got an opportunity to work for a large mechanical contractor in Cedar Rapids, but it meant another apprenticeship and starting at the bottom again. My experience had taught me that determination makes anything possible.
Three years later, I became a journeyman in another discipline: sheet metal work. In addition to learning about the machinery behind HVAC systems, I gained knowledge about air distribution and the science of building and installing these systems. Over the past 23+ years, I've done nearly everything in the industry, from changing batteries in thermostats to designing and installing an industrial air scrubber at the Cargill corn plant, to installing ductwork at the children's hospital in Iowa City. I've spent the last two decades developing skills that I am very proud of.
In April 2024, I decided to "retire" from my 40-hour-a-week job, thinking I would keep busy with small jobs for friends and family. This soon expanded into working for a few local contractors, and I discovered my passion for the work and building relationships with customers. Inspired by this, my wife and I started our own company. I obtained my Master's HVAC contractor license and ventured into the unknown once again.
At Feelgood Heating and Air, our goal is to provide the kind of service to our customers that we would want contractors to show our moms. I promise not to enter your home looking unprofessional or sell you services you don't need. Instead, I aim to educate my customers, explaining what I’m doing and why it needs to be done.
Feelgood Heating and Air is committed to delivering the exceptional customer service that many companies have drifted away from. We genuinely look forward to doing business with you and building a lasting relationship. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we’re excited to work together to meet all your HVAC needs.
